"Real-time" view

For my AP students, we use a program called Albert.io. They have a feature where i can see how much of an exercise a student has completed as they're working on it; and, if done, I can see in how much time they completed it. For example, if they completed a 11-question passage and its questions in 3 minutes, ummmmm, no. Just no. That's going to get them a crummy score. I can see who is still working, I can see who is finished, and it's so helpful to be able to pace them and the class. I know a lot of my Quill kids say they aren't finished when in fact, they really are, and it maes me nuts because it wastes class time (which is precisely their motive...).
So, I was just wondering if it were possible to add a feature like that to be able to follow the kids live and know just where they are. It's so awesome to catch them when they think they've got me, but I really have them...
Thanks for your consideration.

Hi all! Thank you for your feedback so far! I was hoping to get everyone's thoughts on this updated design.
It has:
(1) Color coding so you can easily see which students have been on an activity for too long without progressing.
(2) The "Last Activity Completed" per student. You could hover on the activity name to see the time/date they completed it.
(3) "Activities Remaining" for each student.
The goal is to allow you to quickly scan the page to see which students are stuck or need more activities.
I would greatly appreciate everyone's thoughts! Please let me know if I'm missing anything! Thanks!

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: I LOVE this! I can't think of anything it's missing. It will be very helpful. Thank you.

We use "Go Guardian" at our school. It allows the teacher to see all of the students' screens at one time, so a feature like that would be redundant for us.

I think this would be an amazing feature. Also, it would be great to be notified when students are done with their diagnostics or completely done with suggested lessons.
Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill
Stacy Fulton: Thanks! Regarding notifications, I'm curious if you saw this feature we recently launched: https://support.quill.org/en/articles/7919147-how-do-i-manage-quill-email-notifications
You can get an hourly/daily/weekly rollup email which includes students that completed a diagnostic, and/or have completed all assigned activities. Would that be of help to you?
Stacy Fulton
Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: That could possibly be helpful but it would be even nicer if there was a spot on the dashboard or some sort of icon next to student names that showed they were done with a diagnostic.

Stacy Fulton: Thanks, that's a good idea!

Hi folks! I'm curious to get feedback on a potential implementation of this idea. It would appear on the teacher dashboard (sometimes called the "teacher home page").
The idea is you'd be able to see which students are online, what page they're on, and how long they've been there. If the student is working on an activity, you'd be able to see which question they're up to.
Two other things you'd be able to do are click a link to view Quill as that student, and open the entire feature in a new window (handy for situations where you have a lot of studnets on line).
I'm curious what everyone thinks about this and whether it would meet your needs. I'm also curious if the need for this feature has diminished since returning to in-person teaching. Thanks all!

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: This need has not diminished now that we are back in the classroom full-time. I often allow my students unstructured time to work on Quill assignments and this feature would help me keep them accountable while they are working.

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: Absolutely a super valuable tool. Classes can be chaos right now. You can never see everything that's going on. Parents also doubt us oftenwhen we comment on class time, so computer proof would be great.
Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill
Tiffany Gillespie: Hi Tiffany, would it be possible to elaborate a little on what you mean by this? When you refer to class time, would a real-time view like this help? Or would you need some kind of overall metric of time spent in total using Quill?

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: Both are great. I realize my comment wasn't clear. Teachers are never sitting looking at one screen. I'm often all over the room helping, but it would be great when I get back to my desk to know where everyone is at and who hasn't been doing work at all when I haven't been looking. It's also helpful to gauge how much time to give the kids. If most of the kids are almost done, and a few are barely started, I'd call those students to my desk to make sure they understand what they're doing or if they need an extra watchful eye.

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: Yes, please! A live view would be very helpful!

That might be cool, but I'm not sure that it would be as valuable as other options. This would be a lower priority for me, though still kind of fun and maybe valuable in some ways.

The current feature 'Activity feed' is quite helpful! It'll be much better if we can use this newer feature while working in remote learning era.

I would like this option too
