Alphabetize students by their first last name if they have multiple last names

As an ESL teacher, all of my students are Hispanic and have 2 last names. The first last name is the family name and the main one used, but it sorts them by second last names.

Carla Diaz: This is what I came to say, too. If we could have the option to at least select the way they are ordered (by first/paternal or second/maternal last name), so that it would mirror how they are listed in our SIS lists, that would make looking at data and inputting scores into a gradebook so much easier.

Carla Diaz This is exactly the issue. I have students with two last names, but it's sorting them by their SECOND last name. When students join the class they are using google to log in, so there needs to be a way to accurately map their correct last name. For example, if I have Maria Delgado Tamez, I need her sorted in the D group, not the T group.

Hi all, thanks for voting on this idea. Currently we order students alphabetically by last name. I am curious to those that voted, what would you like to see change here? Are you looking for it to be sorted by first name instead? I may be missing something so I'd love to hear from you all!

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: In the past, I think I've had students in Activity Summary appear out of order. It seems to be fine these days and student names are all in order. Thanks!

Sean Martin: fantastic, thanks for letting me know! I'll wait for some others to chime in but if this is the case for everyone I will close this idea.

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: When Quill imports names from Google classroom is sometimes assumes that a student's second or middle name is their last name. For example, I have a student whose last name starts N, but her second first name starts with an A so Quill has her at the top of the roster instead of with the other Ns. Since the names are imported from classroom I also can't edit them to fix the problem.

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: It is listed alphabetically by only the first letter. The alphabetization doesn't carry through the entire name. For example, it should be Abigail A(lcala), then Angela A(lvarado). However it shows on Quill as Angela, then Abigail. Also, do we have a way to distinguish names with the same first name and last initial? For example, I have Alyssa Garcia and Alyssa Guillen. Both are listed as Alyssa G.

Julie Chen: Thanks for the feedback. Regarding your question, I believe that's a limitation on Clever's side, in that it's only supplying us with the last initial. I realize that must be frustrating!

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: Ah, thanks for clarifying that!

Peter | Principal Product Manager at Quill: I would like the option to order them in first name. Many students in Indonesia do not have a 'family' name.

I believe you can already do this when you click on the "Name" at the top. It will arrange them alphabetically. Hope this helps
